The Department of Russian Studies of the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy prepares qualified specialists in teaching and non-teaching study programmes in Russian linguistics, literature and culture. The department offers the following accredited full-time and part-time study programmes:

Russian Language and Culture in Professional Communication: bachelor's (Bc.), master's degree (Mgr.) and doctoral degree (PhD.),
Teaching Academic Subjects – Russian language in combination with another subject: bachelor's (Bc.) and master's degree (Mgr.).

• After completing 5 years of study and earning master's degree, students can continue in a post-graduate study and earn the following academic degrees: PhDr. for doctor of philosophy or PaedDr. for doctor of pedagogy
• Further study for teachers - Russian language and literature

In scientific research, the Department of Russian Studies participates especially in solving grant projects of Cultural and Educational Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the Slovak Republic (Vedecká grantová agentúra MŠVVaŠ SR KEGA) and Slovak Academy of Sciences (Slovenská akadémia vied) VEGA. The results of the departmental staff’s researches are presented in the form of monographs and papers in national and international journals. The employees are authors of encyclopaedias and dictionaries, and continuously prepare study materials for students. Among the most outstanding scientific projects completed are monographs Exogenéza a endogenéza spisovnej ruštiny (Exogenesis and Endogenesis of Literary Russian), Hanigovské evanjelium (Evangel Hanigoviensis), lexicographic works such as Slovensko-ruský slovník I and II (Slovak–Russian Dictionary I and II), Slovensko-ruský právnicko-ekonomický slovník (Slovak–Russian Law and Economic Dictionary), collection of papers Rusko-slovenské kultúrne kontakty (Russian–Slovak Cultural Contacts), etc. Among other activities, the department participates in the projects of Children’s University, and the University of the Third Age and takes part in organizing students’ conferences and events such as Evening of Russian films, Evening of Russian theatre, etc.
